How can you know if your child’s booster seat is one of the quality booster safety seats available on the market today. After all, anyone could just say that they have a top of the line booster safety seat, but how will you know? The answer is to review what other people have said about booster safety seats and to form your own opinion.

It’s unlikely that many different people will give conflicting information about booster safety seats. Once you form your own independent research about booster safety seats, you’ll know whether or not your baby is safe in the car in their booster. Rather than try to convince you one way or another about the right booster safety seats, I’ll let the research speak for itself.

Does my baby need a new car seat?

Warning: Most toddlers are not big enough or old enough for a booster seat. They need a full harness to give protection for the upper body and to hold them in their seats. A full harness should be used to about 40 lbs. When choosing a safety seat, remember: A seat that is easy to install and use will be the best for you and your child. Find and read the instruction booklet.Look for a convertible seat that has a higher weight limit in the rear-facing position if your baby …

Older children need booster seats to help an adult safety belt fit correctly — but are your children ready for booster safety seats? Here’s how you’ll know: Your child has topped the weight or height limits of the current car seat — often from 40 lbs

Choosing a Child’s Booster Safety Seat

Toddlers 1 year and older and weighing 20 pounds to 40 pounds can ride in a forward-facing safety seat. Children who are between 40 pounds and 80 pounds should use booster safety seats. Make sure your child’s safety seat is a good fit

Since writing that post, I’ve come across a lot more research about the proper weight for booster seats. Every parent wants to know what the weight for booster seats is.

I’ve discovered a great post that shows you good guidelines for weight for booster seats required by law across many states. I’ve also included a few links to other states policies on what the weight for booster seats needs to be in their state so you can see how diverse requirements can be. If there is any question about what the weight for booster seats is in your state, you should google “weight for booster seats” + (the name of your state).

Many videos have been published about booster safety seats. I’ve shared many on this blog. In addition to providing the top booster safety seats, I also provide valuable booster safety seats video tips. Please view the videos below and learn how to keep your child safe in their car booster seats.

Booster Seat Safety Tips

A new study reveals that not all booster seats are safe for children. Nancy Cordes reports on booster seat dos and don’ts that could be the difference in saving a child’s life.

Many booster seats aren’t Safety Seats

Booster safety seats are meant to do one thing — elevate children so that safety belts designed for adults are in the right position to restrain kids during a crash. Thirteen of the 41 belt-positioning booster seats the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety evaluated with the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute did such a poor job of improving the fit of lap and shoulder belts for children that the Institute doesn’t recommended them at all. Ten models are best bets and 5 are …

The CG-Lock – www.cg-lock.com – stabilizes a child’s car booster seat preventing tipping, reducing rocking and bouncing, increasing safety, improving comfort, and reducing the potential for motion sickness. By simply reducing the looseness of the seatbelt’s lap belt — while not affecting the shoulder harness — the CG-Lock makes riding more comfortable while improving safety.

Who the booster seat is for?

It’s surprising, but being buckled up with a safety belt is not the safest way for many children to ride in a vehicle. Safety belts are designed for adults, and children under 4′ 9″ tall should ride with a booster seat. Children prematurely moved to seat belts are 4 times more likely to suffer serious head injuries during a collision than children in child safety or booster seats. The booster seat message is a crucial one, NHTSA estimates that up to 90% of children in the US who should be …

Is there a limit to weight in car booster seats?

So you just bought a new car booster seat for your pre-school child. You quickly install it in the car and are off to the next play date that you have scheduled with one of your friend’s kids.

Is your child safe in their booster seat? It depends on the maximum harness weight.

There is a limit

For some car booster seats the limit is only 40 pounds. Until recently I thought they’d all be rated for at least 100 pounds. I usually ignored those recommendations figuring that it was built for kids and they knew what they were doing.

For the full story, read this article about maximum harness weights for child booster seats.

Parent’s Guide to Child Safety

I thought I’d end the last day of child safety month with a link to a new site called http://www.mychildsafety.net/. The website contains articles not just about booster of car seats, but also gun safety, driveway safety & much more.

As parents it it important that we constantly learn more about keeping our kids safe. I appreciate anyone that takes the time to put together well thought out tips on protecting our kids.

I’d love to hear your comments about what you think about My Child Safety Net!
